Meet Dr. Sandy Martinez Bariatric Surgeon
If there were a phrase to describe Dr Sandy would “perfection obsessed”, her mindset and focus is 100% “surgical technique” driven, and doing things by the book. She does not care about speed, glory nor recognition. She cares about consistence and dependability and doing things perfect every time.
Double board-certified bariatric surgeon and graduated with honors from Universidad Autonoma de Baja California, Dr. Sandy has been an example of excellence and professionalism throughout her career. She studied 7 years of medicine in UABC (Universidad Autonoma de Baja California), 4 years of specialty in general surgery, 1 full year of fellowship in bariatric and metabolic surgery and has hundreds of hours in specialized courses and trainings at internationally renowned academies.
Dr. Sandy is certified by IFSO, American Society for Metabolic bariatric surgery, Colegio Mexicano para la cirugía de obesidad, Colegio Mexicano de cirugía General, Colegio de Cirujanos bariatras y enfermedades metabólicas de baja california.
Dr. Sandy has performed over 3500+ hours of advanced laparoscopic and bariatric training at internationally known bariatric institutes she also has performed over 1500+ gastric sleeves, gastric by-pass, and duodenal switches, single incision gastric sleeve.
She won the National Award of Excellence – EGEL and has participated in several medical investigations at international research centers. Dr. Sandy has also completed complex procedures (Hi BMI’s 90+, single incision sleeve gastrectomy, and duodenal switches, among others) that other surgeons would reject since she is sensitive to the ‘life change’ and influence of her job into other people’s lives. Dr. Sandy seeks to be an example to inspire people to go for the ‘healthy way and balanced life.
Personal Life
Dr Sandy was born in Baja California in the core of a family of two internationally recognized bio-molecular Scientifics. Constant education, science and professional excellence has been within her DNA since she was at young age. Dr. Sandy started to practice discipline and muscular control since she was 5 years old, when she started to study ballet in the best state’s academy. She continued with this discipline until the age of 22 when she graduated as a Certified Master Ballet teacher by the Cuban National Ballet academy.
Dr. Sandy’s greatest passion are the sports. She is a runner often performing 10k, 21k or 42k races. Her greatest dream is to run the London’s international marathon and to complete the Ironman race. She also loves to practice CrossFit and USPSA practical shooting. She often says that muscular control, precision and knowledge are the pillars of a great surgeon.
